🌧️ What We Actually Did During Our San Francisco with Kids Trip
During our trip, it rained A LOT 🌧️😅
Instead of forcing a packed itinerary, we focused on flexible and easier stops. Honestly, that made the trip feel much more enjoyable.
Here’s what we actually got to do during our rainy San Francisco visit:
🚋 Cable Car Ride in San Francisco with Kids
The cable car ended up being one of the most memorable parts of the trip for the kids 💛
It’s not just transportation—it’s part of the San Francisco experience.
We rode the Powell–Hyde line and returned through the Powell–Mason line, which conveniently dropped us closer to the Pier 39 parking garage.
Thankfully, we purchased tickets through the MuniMobile app ahead of time, which made things much easier while traveling with kids.

Pier 39 ended up being one of the easiest and most fun stops for our family 💛
There’s a little bit of everything here:
• Sea lions 🦭
• Shops and snacks
• Family-friendly restaurants
• A carousel for kids 🎠
Because of the variety, this area feels easy and flexible for families.

🚗 Parking at Pier 39
Pier 39 has its own parking garage, which honestly made things SO much easier when visiting with kids 👀
Parking is a little pricey. However, for us, the convenience and added sense of safety made it completely worth it.
Especially when traveling with tired little ones and carrying all the extra kid stuff 😅
Helpful tip:
Many restaurants offer discounted parking validation when dining there.

Meanwhile, this became our “reset area” whenever the kids got hungry or needed a break.

👉 Union Square
Union Square was a nice low-pressure stop during our rainy day 💛
Although it’s not necessarily a big kid attraction, it works really well for:
• A quick walk
• Snacks or coffee breaks
• Stretching your legs between activities
Instead of driving, we decided to take the cable car here—which made the experience more fun for the kids 🚋

The easiest option with kids is usually Uber or Lyft.
If you’re driving, there are several nearby parking garages around Union Square.
Another fun option is taking the cable car 🚋
That’s actually what we did—we hopped off at a stop close to Union Square, which made exploring the area super convenient.

Since the weather didn’t fully cooperate during our trip, there were several places we didn’t get to revisit. However, they’re definitely on our list for next time 💛

The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most iconic things to do in San Francisco with kids 💛
Thankfully, you don’t need a long walk or full tour to enjoy it.
Just stopping at a viewpoint already gives you:
• Beautiful family photos
• Amazing views
• A quick and memorable stop without exhausting the kids
We actually visited the bridge before, but this would have been our kids’ first time seeing it. Unfortunately, because of the rainy weather, we didn’t get to go during this trip.
So yes—we’re definitely planning to come back again 👀

Compared to the busier tourist areas, this stop feels slower and more peaceful.
Kids can walk around, stretch their legs, and enjoy the open space while parents enjoy the scenery and photos 😅
